Nashville is in contention for the cup this season and desired another top 4 defenseman. Hamhuis gives Nashville flexibility to play on any of the 3 pairings. They give up a pending UFA and two draft picks that should not effect their overall prospect pool too much.
Washington is entering their first year of a full out rebuild. Hamhuis was signed two weeks ago with a promise to be traded to a contending team. While the 2nd round pick is bound to be a late 2nd, it give them a potentially great player. The additional 4th round pick makes up for Bouwmeester being a UFA at the end of the season. JB can also be flipped for another draft pick or 2 before the end of the season. Hamhuis had a fantastic first half of the season paired with Pateryn; he began to sputter in the second half, however. P.S. I am not Pierre McGuire's twin brother, separated at birth.
